About David Watkins

David Watkins left behind a lasting legacy. He had an ability to weave grand campaigns from the smallest ideas. As a faithful friend, he dedicated himself to others and shared his bright smile and witty insight.

Born on October 23rd, 1967, Watkins grew up in East Orange, NJ. Graduating from East Orange High School in 1985, he showed leadership as Student Council President. Watkins went on to graduate from Syracuse University in 1989.

Watkins was destined for greatness. After working at Chubb Insurance, he joined the executive staff at The Source Magazine, launching his career. He soon united with Da Streetz Productions, where he proceeded to co-found ICON MEDIA. He produced flawless events like The Diddy 30th Birthday Gala at Cipriani, and Antonio “LA” Reid’s 40th Birthday Gala.

Watkins showed his dedication at UniWorld, The NuAmerica Agency, and later founded The Watkins Project. Watkins produced campaigns such as The Bud Light Lounge for Anheuser Busch, The Art of Taste for BUICK, and countless more. Other clients include Phillip Morris Companies, Alize/Kobrand, Pepsi, Phat Farm, & Vibe Magazine. Watkins was named to Crain’s New York “40 under 40” for his achievements and received a Biz Bash Award.

Upon the passing of his devoted brothers and mother, David continues to show generosity to his sister and his family.

David accepted Christ into his life at the Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where he was baptized and laid to rest by Pastor Milton Biggham.

David Watkins passed on October 28, 2011 at The Brooklyn Hospital in Brooklyn, NY surrounded by those he loved. Without him, the world will never be the same.
